Cervelo’s main novelty in 2014: the revamped S2

Time for updating has arrived also at Cervelo, and since the high-end models are doing just fine, the lower ranks of the range got some improvements, this meaning the S2 aero road bike has been revamped.

Cervelo claims that the S2 stood as one of the first carbon aero road bikes on the market, but we’re not going to debate over this matter. Anyway, the 2014 generation will feature with some new traits, especially regarding wind-slicing properties, and stiffness, although these two improvements won’t set new standards for the model itself is aimed at Saturday morning group ride type of riders. In other words, the S2 is Cervelo’s entry-level model, but its performance and features are above what you would really expect or fit into this category, given the brand’s quality standard.

Passing on to the actual novelties, we take note of the optimized tapered head tube, for increased stiffness and better handling, the internal routing of the cable, be they mechanical, electronic or hydraulic, the BBright standard, also for increasing stiffness, and the thinner chainstays, for extra comfort. Cervelo also payed attention to the position of the water bottle the S2, and developed the multiple bottle cage mount, which basicly means that if you install a single bottle cage, on the down tube, you can place it lower so as to create as little drag as possible. We’re not really sure if this feat will really save you the 1.4 watts it promises to, but we can give them credit for trying to reach the true aero road bike spirit!

The S2 can be bought either as an individual frameset, with frame, fork, headset, and seat post included for 2.000$ or as a complete bike, available only in the Shimano 105, FSA, and 3T components build-up, which will increase the price a further 2.800$.
