Saddle – Lock, the James Bond Solution for Securing a Bicycle

Everyone knows what a “U-Lock” is, so the question is: does “Saddle – Lock” sound familiar to you? I don’t think so, but now I wonder how come no one has given a thought about it. But this is the case of every great invention, it seems so handy, that you wish it was you happily shouting “Evrika!”

Designers Sang Hwa, Kim Jin Ho and Yeo Min Gu imagined the following scenario: at the push of a button, the seat post is gently lowered towards the rear wheel, and a cut-away section in the saddle allows it to get attached to the rear wheel. Just like in those 007 movies, a combination lock releases an aluminum lock which instantly secures the saddle to the wheel. Even if this innovation has been rewarded with a Red Dot Design Award,  I can still imagine some dirty scenarios where the seat post is mercilessly cut, or the bicycle is simply taken away and hidden into a van…
